Densitometry is a method used to assess bone density and the risk of fractures. This test measures calcium levels, overall bone density, bone structure, and the thickness of the outer layer of bone.

What is it?
Ultrasonic densitometry measures bone density using ultrasonic rays. This diagnostic technique allows to detect general bone loss and osteoporosis at the initial stage. For diagnostics, a portable densitometer is used to measure the speed of ultrasound wave transmission through bone tissue. Indicators are recorded using sensors, and the data is processed and displayed on a computer monitor.
Preparation
The ultrasonic densitometry procedure is painless and safe, and the time it takes depends on the area under study. You do not need to prepare for the procedure, only the day before the examination, you can not take calcium supplements.
