✨ What do doctors and students do when the workday and classes are over? That’s right — they go to relax, teach, and learn. But when a good friend and colleague, Dr. Mark Rampton from the USA, comes to visit us, it’s definitely a reason to get together, go on a trip, and learn new practical skills.
This somewhat unusual quest-seminar took place yesterday thanks to the joint efforts of teachers from the Department of Family Medicine and Outpatient Care of the Medical Faculty No. 2 of UzhNU and doctors from the InterFamily Clinic.
The event was held as part of the international ShowUp4Health project with the support of the Corvalis–Uzhhorod Sister Cities Association. 🌍🤝
🎓 Students from different courses and nationalities took a journey “through time” and had a unique opportunity to talk to family doctors with 3, 10, 30, and even 50 years of experience! The students had the opportunity to learn various special skills together with family doctors of different ages and see how this skill has changed historically over half a century with the advancement of technology.
🔹 Blood pressure measurement using an old-fashioned mercury, mechanical, and modern automatic device, as well as a device for daily blood pressure measurement
🔹 Otoscopy: examination of the ear “the old-fashioned way” with an ear mirror and forehead reflector, and state-of-the-art video otoscopes used in telemedicine.
🔹 Dermatoscopy: examination of moles “by eye,” as was done many years ago, and with the help of a modern video dermatoscope.
🔹 Diagnosis of gallbladder inflammation, clinically, then using an old Mundray ultrasound machine, which has served patients faithfully for decades and is now a teaching tool for students, and finally, a modern Butterfly ultrasound machine that fits easily into a family doctor’s pocket.
And, of course, what kind of quest would it be without a quiz and a prize draw? ☺️
The students did a great job — even the first-year students who have just started their journey in medicine. 💪
